Good morning:

You should only hear a throw out bearing when you have the clutch depressed. It should be totally quiet when your foot is off the clutch. If it is not then the clutch is not adjusted correctly. When you adjust the clutch the peddle should travel an inch or two before you feel any resistance. The point of resistance is the throwout bearing coming in touch with the fingers on the clutch.

Bearing nose is usally a rumbling noise. When do you hear the sound? Is it any one gear? Is it a idle with the clutch depressed? Is it in neutral with the clutch out? Is is when your engaging the clutch?

If the bearing was NOS and military it was probably packed in preserative (cosmaline). I do not know if they were greased or not
