I just changed my speedometer cable this weekend. After I was complete the speedometer did not work.I removed the cable from the back of the speedometer and drove the truck.The wire within the cable assembly was not turning.I then blocked the front tires and jacked up one rear tire.I partially inserted the end of the wire into the transfer case and turned the rear drive shaft by hand until I could see that the wire within was turning so I slid the nut on and tightened it,removed jack and blocks and drove the truck again with the cable off of the speedometer.Now the wire within was turning.I put the cable back on the speedometer and it works fine.I figured that the wire within the assembly was not aligning properly at the transfer case and pushing itself back inside the assembly.
