throw-out bering

I can hear the throw-out bering on my WDX making a little noise (spinning sound) I'm sure it won't be long untill a replacment is needed. I'm thinking it would be a lot easier to pull the whole motor than to try to remove the tranny/transfer case.
Any input from someone who's been there ?
