I would assume if any treads are exposed you'd want to brush the loose rust off them to prevent these particals from binding in the treads when coming off but hey , sounds like a jam-up idea. I wonder if anti-sieze would suck up into the heated treads? There is something satisfing about taking stuff apart without having to cut ,grind, or beak it to get it off or apart.
