The link below might help you make your decision. Looks like aside from the air issues DOT 5 has the fluid itself is compressible (maybe due to the inability to ever completely remove all the air from the fluid), which is why it's not normally used in standard automotive systems.

The differences in DOT 3 and 4 are kind of interesting.
