I have seen 3 or 4 different looking turbos on 4bts that came with the engine. I wont say stock because i think a lot of parts swapping happened in bread trucks. My truck has a very large housing seems a little slow to build boost and if loaded enough will build 18 psi boost. I actually would prefer for what i do to have a smaller wastegated turbo that builds boost under 2000 rpm. That said I have a built pump with the 3200 governor in the garage waiting to be installed and with higher speed capability I may max out my stock turbo we will see. I also have not seen exhaust temps above about 1100 upstream of the turbo and very little smoke so i think my turbo has a little more boost left. What i am saying is try your turbo and see what it does. Keep us posted because i would be interested in what you learn.
As far as mods a little fuel really improved my drivability and look at the last 5.9 in dodges it was around 300 hp so a 4bt should be safely capable of 200 hp. I read once that Cummins found the closest correlation between total fuel consumed and engine life. That said a b series can burn a lot of fuel in its life. I have seen plenty of 400,000 + motors, it might take you awhile to get there!
