Are the markings on the pistons .040 or 040?
Does the markings appear the same (same depth, same location, and same spacing) on all the pistons?
That is the usually markings for after market pistons.
Some rebuilders will put an ID tag on an engine and stamp all the parts from that engine so stuff don't get lost or put in the wrong engine.
