My early 51 (has early bed and date stamps on head lights, heater and other parts from early spring 1951) has a single wire sender with the twist ring lock. Serial number is 8392435x so that is much earlier than you suggested above.
My 42 WC53 tank has the 5 screw mount for the gauge. Not sure on the number of wires the sender has. I can look later.
