Might be wrong, but sounds like Daryl is talking about what McMaster Carr calls any-direction extractors and you are talking about a kind of straight-flute extractor?

I have a set of the any-direction straight extractors - I don't like them a lot but the set includes center drill guides and I use those all the time to center a hole in the busted fastener. Great when it's broken off below the surface.
