The first one I broke was the short side, about 4" from the flange. I was climbing onsome rocks in the parking lot at work. Both rear tires were on dry pavement, and my foot slipped off the clutch as I was rolling backwards.
The second was an aggressive shift into third gear on dry pavement. It was the long side, and broke at the splines inside the side gear. Luckily it didn't damage anything else.
My truck is a 48' B1 civilian model. I've put a mild 71' 318 v8 in it, lockers at both ends, and 38.5/11.00/16 swamper boggers on beadlocks. It's my daily driver, and weekend wheeler. We mostly only go out in the snow, hardly any mud or rock trails that are legal to wheel on here.
