Line it with tin. My Dad had built one out of plywood, and the deflected sand starts to erode the wood and you end up with lots of splinters plugging the suction and the gun.
I'm not sure how 'air tight' you made it, but a long time ago a buddy of mine thought he would out smart the manufacturer of a blast cabinet and siliconed all the joints and covered the baffled air intake. When he started the vacuum, the whole cabinet got all puckered as is started to collapse.
