I have noticed that a lot. NOAA puts out HAZARDOUS WEATHER ALERTS on their website that seldom turn out as dastardly as they predict.
Weather hype scares people and they go out and buy generators, sump pumps, chain saws, toilet paper, food, lanterns, etc., etc. Good for the economy. :)
