I don't think blasting will be nessessary. When I did my motor out of the 48 (extreme mud/crud/grease/rust) I first hit it with a pressure wash with degreaser while still in the truck to find the bolts. this cleaned it really well. I wire brushed it with a drill, then wiped with carb cleaner & primed. I never used any media beside aluminum oxide in my cabinet or sand in portable, but I think cost would be of concern. good luck, John
