Ok, I'm about to give up on this thing. I am trying to dis-assemble my 55 "after-type" shift tower (crash box). I have removed the shift rails and all the associated springs, and balls.
I'm stuck on removing the shift lever. As you can see in the pics, there is a big spring holding the lever in the top of the tower. I can't figure out how to remove it. There is also a pin on the outside of the tower. It rotates but doesn't want to come out? I would like to clean it all up before I reinstall the rails.
The reason I am taking it apart is that I was unable to shift into reverse. The gears all move freely so this was the obvious choice. There was a lot of rust from sitting so many years, although it is much cleaner, it still could use some TLC.
Thanks, I appreciate the help.

Anyway, I hope it is something simple that doesn't require special tools or presses.
