Back in march a question was posted asking what was the last year that WM300 model trucks were equipped with cowl lights. This morning while searching for an answer to another question on another forum, I ran across some cowl light information in the parts lists.
The MoPar parts lists actually called these lights: Code 8-50-303, LAMP, Parking, (Right and Left). The respective part numbers - 1567 150 and 1567 151, which mounted to the cowl of the cab, remained in use after their introduction as new 12-volt numbers in the 1956 parts list D15788 until they were replaced by double faced dual-purpose parking and turn signal combination lamps which mounted to the sides of the extended WM300 model grill.
The June 17, 1963 parts list 81-690-0123 was still listing these parking lamps and had yet to list the combination parking and turn signals that replaced them. The next newer parts list I have - 81-690-0817 - which was printed in May of 1969 and covers 1963-1968 model trucks, lists the new combination lamps and shows the older single faced parking lamps as having been available only through serial number 1297696 on flat face cowl trucks and serial number 1298262 on windshield cowl and full cab trucks. (For some reason the parts list left off the 246 prefix to both of these numbers.)
This would indicate that the cowl lights were factory available only through late in the 1963 model year. This would not take into account any special orders, dealer equipped cowl lights, or owner add-ons.
This information is supported by Power Wagon sales brochures. Brochure 81-305-3032, dated 9/62, shows a new 1963 model WM300 with cowl mounted parking lamps and no grill mounted parking/turn signal combinations. The next brochure 81-305-3032, labeled "revised" and dated 9-63, shows the very same truck images with new information for 1964 models in regards to engines and brakes. The image showing the WM300 has had the cowl mounted lamps airbrushed off and grill mounted parking lamp and turn signal combinations have been artistically added. Information on trucks currently listed in the Power Wagon Registry also supports these findings.
