The problem with U-Haul is that most of the rental places are independents. They get a small fee for hooking up and renting out the trailer. The independents are not going to spend a lot of time inspecting and renting out the equipment like a place that owns the trailer would.

U-Haul equipment is the best designed equipment out there. But, they don't expect you to be hauling a 6,500 lb Power Wagon. For that, you need an equipment trailer or a trailer rated at 10,000 lb GVW and a truck designed to pull that weight.

As has been pointed out, even if you have the equipment, it's very expensive to make a round-trip.

Take the money you would have spent hauling the vehicle and look for a better vehicle closer to you. Unless it's a unique vehicle, you can always find one close to you with a little patience.
