E brake cable vs rod

After reading the archives, I have figured that my 48 civilian requires a e brake cable and that trying to use the rod runs into frame interference. Please confirm or deny my understanding? If i use the cable, I need the 2 sets of u bolts and saddles that clamp the cable to the frame and bracket off the transmission. Midwest, VPM don't have them. Anyone have them or suggest an alternative? Thanks
