Jerry, I use locust in my stove almost exclusively, because of its very high BTU content. I do have a lot of maple that I get by gradually clearing some of my property. That wood I either give away, or use in the fireplace, during the early fall, because it gives off a little less heat, and makes a nice orange fire, as opposed to the locust, which just sits there like a coal fire.
I think that if you were to cut, split, and stack it (loosely) right away, and keep it dry and ventilated, it would be OK to burn after a few months, say after the first of the new year.
Anything will burn when it's green, if you get it hot enough, but I don't take the risk. I use wood that's been dead at least two years.
Maybe you can swap some of it with someone who is in the wood business, for some wood that is seasoned a bit more? Even if you did a 2-for-1 trade, you'd still come out ahead.
