Never assume that because something doesn't drip, it must be full. I've made that assumption many times, only to discover that the reason it doesn't drip is that there's no oil in it. I'm starting to discipline myself to check every gearbox on every vehicle I get, to make sure it's full of oil. That's also a good way to find out what's going to need its seals replaced pretty soon.
