And so she runs. With all plugs. Consistently. (For the moment...)

I am not 100% sure, but I believe that it was the lack of fuel due to the throttle screw being too closed off (and/or some other clog). But after I adjusted the screw and it started working I was not able to reproduce the problem. That is, when it "became" fixed, I undid what I had just done and it still didn't fail. So I can't be 100% sure that was the specific or only problem, it was probably a lot of things combining. But going with the not-quite-enough-fuel theory, I think that the engine was also tight from assembly lube, things not being seated, etc which added to the tightness to get things running pushing it over the starting edge. The repeated starting/running on 5 got things loosened up and then correcting the fuel finally solved it.

So I have new uninstalled points, condenser and a meter from which to set the dwell, to be used shortly. It it idles well and revs up and down pretty happily. The oil pressure after about 30-40 minutes of running was 50 when revving, down to 12 when idling slowly. The temp was about 180, so I suspect that is full temperature. So I am optimistic that the rebuild paid off. It still smokes a bit, but I am hoping that the rings still need to wear in and calm that down some more.

Anyway, thanks for everyone's help, suggestions and support! I read and tried to check and considered everything and all the suggestions, which I appreciate a lot. I'd probably still be tracing the same wires over and over without the help.

I'm really pleased (but kicking myself for not doing this months ago).

Thanks!

don
