Just got back from spending the day helping family pick up the pieces. No injuries, all pets accounted for. A few sentimental things that can't be replaced were broken. Mom and Dad need to buy all new dishes for the second time in 15 years. In terms of residential it looks like the last quake shook down most of the unstable chimneys. We stayed away from downtown. Traffic was bad enough elsewhere. Power out at the signal light? Everybody stops, got that? Proceed with caution and check in on your neighbors.
The worst part for me was the time lag at 3AM. It woke us up. Check the USGS site, all quite. Facebook starts popping off, HAM repeaters are starting emergency roll call. Then USGS site is up with a BIG dot back home. Start sending texts because we know the voice won't work, then wait for a 10 minute eternity for phone call that gets cut short.
Give your parents or kids a call tomorrow or next weekend. Let them know you are there for them.
