No Spark

I just bought a 1955 Power Wagon and it has no spark. I was told that it has been converted to 12 volt and it does have a 12 battery and coil. I have tried everything to get spark to the plugs. The only thing I haven't done is change the little ceramic resistor mounted on the firewall. Its really hot to touch while trying to start the truck but I just don't know, would this keep it from getting spark? Is there a voltage regulator on this truck? I'm really stumped
