Yup! I agree! Probably a poor ground. My old 74 sometimes has a fit and the ground wire to the engine block just needs some tightening or moving and its back to being ok.
Might also check the + wire from the battery to the starter relay.
Very rarely do the ignition switches go bad. It could be the ammeter has gone bad and that will kill the entire system.
