Normally, no sealant is used. I would take it to a hydraulic shop for a little advice. They may have a simple solution. At least you would find out what a repair will cost. Sometimes an experienced eye can tell you right away what is wrong.
I've put new fittings on one end of an old (but, in good condition) hose or used old fittings on new hoses. I've also soldered or brazed new fittings on things.
