Use an electrical butt connector with the plastic peeled off for the splice. Do not crimp the tube, but maybe just a bit of the connector to hold things while soldering. Pencil graphite will keep the solder from running all over, like plugging the tube. Try to rub a sharp pencil in the ends. Do the splice where it won't show, under the dash.
Then the challenge begins- adjusting the linkage so it read close at room temp, but is dead on at boiling point. Bending one part changes the reading, bending another changes the leverage/range.
