When I was in Everett, maybe 25 years ago, I ran into some guys who had an absolutely amazing little wooden launch powered by a hand-built triple-expansion steam engine. They were going to take it out on the bay for its maiden voyage. Apparently a man who worked for Everett Engineering (a marine maintenance outfit) had spent the better part of his adult life building it as a side project, and then just when he got it finished, he died. I was amazed at the workmanship of the whole thing, but I never did see it in the water or hear what became of it. If you want to build a small marine steam engine someday, you might see if anybody at Everett Engineering is still around who can show you this one or find the plans for it.
