anyone do this retaining the original frame, axles and running gear?
considering my next project.. a 1/2 ton closed can wc-12..engine already missing. so is tranny..just a shell today.
Have seen it countless times where a complete body swap was put onto a modern frame and engine type conversion. BUT.. dont like the look of how the bumpers line up, frame to body looks, etc.
wish to explore installing a small block v8 (perhaps chevy) using the mated chevy engine tranny, into the original frame (perhaps update axles to a more stout PW or M37 3rd member and axle shafts)
this seems pretty straight forward, with a custom jack shart from back of modern tranny to the divorced t-case.
my questions:
what engine mounts did you use? Custom or can one start with a universal mount somehwere?
Seen a place called ruff stuff who sells to off road jeeps building crawler buggies. anyone use their mounts or any other peices?
Second: exhaust routing and steering relo/fab/replacement seems like an obviuos hurtle to overcome with clearances so the finished product looks good.
anyone do this who can share pointers?
