Of course, they were low compression. But, you should still be able to feel the compression if the engine is in good shape. But, this engine has been out of service for years and the rings are dry and maybe stuck.
I'd go ahead and try to start it using the previously discussed procedures for starting an engine. There is plenty on the internet about starting an out of service engine.
It's an exercise in optimism to expect these old engines to start and run well. Maybe, you will be lucky.
