Use a piece of pipe cut into two half tubes. About 3" long. Diameter has to be big enough to fit over column, but into recess in back side of wheel. Then I use chain type vise grips to clamp the two halves around the column, and a conventional two jaw gear puller.
There are some on eBay form time to time, and somebody here will usually loan you one for the shipping charges. But I prefer not to wait indefinitely.
