Here's an example of a donkey being used not for logging. Here it's dragging a road scraper -- kind of a large fresno -- grading the road down to the Molalla river in front of what is now Feyrer's Park. I don't know if the blade is just an old horse-drawn road scraper attached to the donkey, or is a bigger one made just for that purpose. This was the state of the art in mechanized road building prior to the Caterpillar. Note the nice clear old-growth fir log being cut up for fuel. Timber, even prime old growth fir, was essentially free on the stump back then.
