One of my biggest thrills as far as fire fighting equipment was at the SPAAMFAA meet in San Bernardino about 20 years ago or so. They had two coal burning horse drawn steam pumpers at the meet. Each put on a demonstration. You would not believe how powerful these old pieces of equipment are. And, you will never hear such a roar this side of a jet engine.
