I think the short in the starter is likely the problem. It did crank at about the normal speed, and has started easily in the past.
After it cranked and I shut if off, it would not crank again...nothing...it didn't just run down the battery. ...it suddenly just would do nothing. After a few minutes, the lights would work but it never would crank again.
And it would not crank the 48 either...so yes I think the battery is toast and starter has a short.
I just tested the other battery again. I could crank it but did this only briefly suspecting that there was a short.. I also noticed a faint spark like sound when I pushed the starter.
Also, I noticed that the ground wire from the battery was actually warm...don;'t know if this is normal or not since I never thought to check this before.
I weill pull the starter and get it checked.
Thanks for the help....if there are any other suggestions however, do let me know.
