For the Helitool 318 M37 conversion, I had wanted to use an aluminum bellhousing. However, Ray thought it best to use a cast iron bellhousing. The reason is, he feels, and I agree, that the NP420 and PTO is too much unsupported (no crossmember) weight. If you put a lot of G-force on it by coming back to earth hard, it *could* snap the bellhousing. We have no hard proof of this, but it seems a wise idea to err on the side of caution.
For a street truck, particularly a 4x2, I'd have no qualms about using the aluminum bellhousing.
