carriage head bolts look the same and will enable you to take the parts again if rust develops between them. i did this on my command car and will do it on my m-37. rivets work well too and i suspect the factory used them because they were not planning on the trucks lasting forever and also that rivets are cheaper than the carriage bolt assemblies would be.
