Split beads are safe when caution is used. Split rim is not as safe, these were used on older trucks(50's back). Split beads are easy to do at home if you are careful. Wirebrush the locking ring and rim area, making sure it's clean of any rust. Use a logging chain through the rim and around the tire. Use clip on tire chuck, inflate slowly. At about 10# tap on bead lock with hammer to make sure it's seated. Once it's seated it won't come off. If they were that unsafe they would never have run the millions of miles down the road that they have.
