I got a pressure blast attachment for my washer from Northern and you must use fine blasting sand or it clogs. No play sand. It does take paint and rust off well and the water keeps the dust at 0. You have to move fast or you will get flash rust! However do the blasting on a gravel driveway or dirt spot that you don't want to ever plant grass on. Then it mixes in well with the rest. I think the lead content will be minimal. That said I still have found that sending it out for commercial blasting is more effective and I get a better result.
If you want to save money but not time pre-blast all the heavy undercoating and multiple layers of paint off at home and then have the commercial blasting do the "final blast". Alternatively could try a diesel/gas mix and burn off the undercoating and "fry" the paint. Then blast at home and take in to the commercial guys for the "finish" Of course your neighbors might gripe about the large volume of smoke from the burning undercoat and regulations may prohibit this. Just some off the cuff ideas.
