To clear some things, The data tag IS the VIN on a military WC 26 the the OP included in his post. When told that they were hand stamped originally you took the line that they weren't so I came in to verify what Kaegi had said as being fact. The SET he refers to they also have a date of delivery tag on the bed, dash data tag, and a maintenance/parts manual tag that need to be stamped as well. Military trucks do not have door pillar VIN tags like a normal truck. Trivial to you, but he stated what he had in the OP.
What I for one was trying to convey that there was no need to go to a company to have them perfectly stamped as they were not originally. UIf you have access to some stamps, do it yourself. I was at a MV show and a guy got points deducted for that. Picky? yes, but that is the world of showing vehicles, details. Whether you care about them or not is on you, when you start saying things that do not apply to askers question(wrong info) it does need to be corrected if it is false. None of us can read minds but you try to cover the bases in a reply to keep it legit.
Eric has put a LOT of time in researching stuff for people who do care about their certain preference truck. To have misinformation about it, without having the record set straight, tends to cloud up the truth. No need to take offense about it, I'm still learning about things too. I'm far from an expert on anything either but when facts are given, it's something to learn from.
Open discussions like this help myself and others to learn more so that is why I add things when I know them to be true. It does help to hsve actual vehicles to look at and that is why guys like Paul K in Texas and Gordon is so great for the military guys. they has a selection to see in person. With the PW's guys like Ron, Eric, Matt, etc are a treasure trove of info as well.
We all appreciate you willingness to help and input so don't stop. I don't check in every day so I miss some posts but do offer things if I feel I can help. I've tried to take that approach as to tell them to just get a manual. That's a whole 'nuther can o worms!
