Yes, that was a third Gen & I'm sure the 24 valve is similar to make the engine run but the transmission needs a stand alone controller for the auto...which is expensive, so hopefully his truck has an NV4500.
Anything is possible & it can certainly be done if enough thought & engineering goes into it. My thought is the 12 valve is just a far superior engine & so why go to all the extra effort for a 24V? If he installs a P7100 on it though...that's different.
Now the only obstacle is getting 1959 wheels to fit the D60/D80 axles :)
