In the Army grease test, it's apparent that the Army pushed for grease lubrication. The Army decision makers felt that if an oil seal leaked, the lubricant could be lost and compromise the vehicle's combat effectiveness. They were especially worried about vehicles that had to be stored for long periods, but were expected to be ready for use on short notice.
Many Army vehicles were converted from oil lubrication to grease lubrication.
