What triggers the brake lights??

Today I had a power tripping LEO point out that I had no brake lights. He wanted to call a tow truck, he wouldn't even let me drive 200 yards to a Safeway parking lot....

Anyway, I see a pressure switch on the front of the master cylinder with two wires coming from it, is this it??
