Parking Brake Cable Repair

My '49 has the parking brake cable. It's in good condition, with the exception of the cable itself (of course). Has anyone found a method for repairing one of these? I assume the ends were originally swegded(sp?). Can you cut the cable, drill out the ends, and then braze new cable into the ends?
