1947 WDX PTO shaft

Hi everybody! Here's an oddball question for the experts here: My truck was set up to run a pump off of the PTO. The pump was located in the bed, so they have the PTO shaft coming out of the rear side of the PTO unit. I want to drive a front bumper mounted Braden winch with the PTO so I need to get the shaft pointed the other direction. How is this done? There is a cast iron cap bolted to the front side of the PTO housing. Could it possibly be as easy as taking the cap off, sliding the shaft forward and bolting the cap to the rear? Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated!
