Lead acid batteries slowly discharge while sitting. Partially discharged batteries lose some capacity to hold a charge. Lead acid batteries last longest when they are kept at a full charge. A good $25.00 trickle charger will pay you back with increased battery life.

Idling an engine for extended periods can be very hard on them. The best thing is to take the truck out for a good run and then put it away hot.
