Welcome to Forum #443.
Section firewarden Virgil "Whitey" Francis drives engine B-7, as Bruce Sloan shoots a stream of water in this 1969 photograph. They are operating a WM Dodge Power Wagon off-road engine, which became the workhorse of the forest fire service during the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. The Power Wagon allowed the firewardens in southern and central New Jersey the opportunity to encircle a wildfire with the engine in order to control spreading wildfires, which was not possible with earlier equipment and vehicles.
