...Remember when "stock cars" were, well, stock cars? You watched the race on Sunday, and then, if you wanted, you could go to the dealership on Monday and buy a car that was at least CLOSE to what they were running at Talledega or Daytona or Bristol.
The cars they run in NASCAR today are nothing like a vehicle you could buy from a Dodge dealer, or anybody else (except, of course, if you own a NASCAR team). Four-speed truck transmissions in a body style that isn't available to the public? What's the point?
Someday I hope to buy an example of the greatest, fastest "stock car" ever built, and drive it proudly on the street, just like any other car.
I'm speaking, of course, of the 1953 Hudson Hornet...
