Prior to trying to start my engine, I wanted to make sure oil was where it should be and that the pump was primed. I went into the box of misc pipe fittings and made a quick-and-dirty pressurizer. The inlet is from my compressor, the output goes into one of the galley plugs. I put warm oil in and let 'er rip until I got pressure on my gauge. That took about 1/2 a quart. Then I rotated the crank put in another quart, just for fun.
I'm not sure what my input pressure was (40 lbs or less, the compressor gauge doesn't read that low, and my little rig was leaky here and there), but I was able to get about 30lbs on my gauge. When I cranked the engine I immediately saw pressure, so it seemed to work in terms of priming the pump.
Note that these bottles are rated for much higher then 40psi, but I was hiding in the cab with safety glasses on, just in case...
