I think having to use a little force to get the bearings over the threads is normal. I think you are probably O.K.
You could try cleaning the threads real well with a rotating wire brush or dressing the threads with a triangular file. But,other than getting a die, I don't know what other option you have.
I'd probably put a little anti-seize on it and be a little firmer with it. But, then I've screwed up a lot of threads.
You can make a thread chaser by splitting one of the nuts.
