The rotors aren't fastened to the hubs on the GM truck. They simply ride on the wheel studs which are engineered to support the weight of the vehicle.
In the Ugly Trucking application the rotor flange supports no weight, it only holds the rotor, so like Dan said it sees only sheer forces while braking.
Compared to the four/eight bolts holding the rotor on the two pins supporting caliper are the weak link in the system.
