I finally found the VIN on the second series truck that I had talked about on the last forum.
I told Dave Butler @ VPW my problem and he said that some of the 40's & 50's trucks that were built in CA had the VIN stamped in the frame towards the end of the frame rail.
I went back out to the shop and after a couple of coats of paint remover and a little wire brushing, there it was. At the end of the frame rail, towards the bottom and the numbers were much closer to each other than the normal ones that are over the axle.
So, the fact that I found it is the good news. The bad news is the number says it is a 46-47 made in San Leandro but it has a second series body on it.
Hope this info helps the next guy that can't find the VIN on the frame over the axle.
