Seems a good radiator runs substantially cooler than the 185-210 of the engine. The thermostat is keeping the engine warm. I measured the radiator temperature on both my power wagon and a Scout that I have and they were around 120 on the return hose when fully warmed up on an 80ish degree day. I am not sure on older radiators (my old iron is manual) but on a newer chevy the tranny cooler was in the tank and the feed was at the top of the tank and the return was on bottom so the return fluid is the coolest coolant.
